Join New York CAN

You have an exciting opportunity to join fellow New Yorkers in providing a strong, unified voice to elevate children’s needs as a priority in New York State. How? Become a part of New York CAN.

Why is such an effort needed? For many years New York led the way in protecting children and providing funding for their needs. That is no longer the case. Although there have been some advances, many children continue to live in less than satisfactory conditions.

Did you know that Buffalo’s poverty rate of 31.5% is nearly tied with New Orleans (32.4%)? New York City is not far behind with a rate of 28%. In addition, the National Center for Children in Poverty estimates that 9.6% of New York’s children are living in extreme poverty, a ranking of 8th in the country. And, New York State is ranked 20th in the United States on Kids Count’s 10 measures of children’s well-being. Too many children go without health insurance, quality early care and education, or wind up dropping out of school.

This is not what New Yorkers want for our children. New York CAN provides a unique opportunity for you to voice your concerns and to take action on behalf of our children. Our goals are simple: to foster investments in children by mobilizing public will and reaching out to candidates, elected officials, and government administrators to elevate children’s needs in the state.

You can be part of this collective voice. We welcome your participation at any level and encourage you to contribute financially to support this important work.

We invite you to join with us. Together we can do more for children and families.
