Initiatives & Legislation
  • Our Agenda contains SCAA's Legislative Agenda which outlines the primary legislative priorities shaping our efforts.
  • Working to Learn, an SCAA and CUF Initiative, aims to help New York close the gap – by improving access to higher education, literacy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and vocational training for the state’s 2.1 million high-school educated adults and out-of-school youth.
  • Adult Home Reform documents SCAA's efforts, through the NYS Coalition for Adult Home Reform, to provide adult home residents with a voice in policy making and an opportunity to have a choice in where they live.
  • Home Visiting, a collaborative effort whereby all new families in New York State whould receive assistance from a system of support and services that promotes optimal health, mental health, family functioning and self-sufficiency.  Such a system would serve all pregnant women, infants, and new families (including first-time parents and existing families with new babies).

The New York State Community Action Association (NYSCAA) is now producing the Toolkit and a link to their website is provided.

Winning Beginning NY

  • A statewide campaign working to inform policy-makers and the public about the many benefits of early care and learning to children, families and society. The campaign aims to build a broad-based constituency to make investment in quality early care and learning a top public priority in New York State.

New York Children's Action Network

  • New York CAN is a broad-based initiative that brings together a variety of coalitions, organizations, and individuals all concerned about issues affecting children and families with the goal of elevating the importance of supporting all children in New York State.


CRP: New York State Citizen Review Panels for New York State

  • A website for the New York State Citizen Review Panels, comprised of citizen volunteers who are authorized by law to examine the policies, procedures and practices of the State and social services districts and, where appropriate, specific cases. The Panels evaluate the extent to which the agencies are effectively discharging their child protection responsibilities. Panel reports, meeting materials and other resources are posted on the site.
